Aldo Conterno was born in 1931, the second son of Giacomo Conterno; his family had been winegrowers in Piemonte for five generations. The CRU vineyards are located in Bussia of Monforte d’Alba, in the heart of Barolo country. The Nebbiolo grapes used to make Il Favot are of Michet and Lampia varieties and come from various vineyards which have undergone periodical replanting and so have a maximum age of 15 years. A true expression of Langa Terroir, soils are composed of limestone, layers of sand and clayey-calcareous, rich with calcium carbonate and iron. The vineyard is positioned 350 - 400 m. above sea level with South & South/West aspects. Harvest occurs in Mid-October and is done exclusively by hand with a very careful fruit selection.
Skin contact is limited to 6-8 days so as to extract minimal tannins whilst still drawing out rich colour with the resulting wines being well hued and remarkably soft. During this time fermentation is completed at a range of temperatures from 26̊ to 28̊ C. After a few months in stainless steel and several transfers, the new wine is moved to oak casks where it remains for a few months before its final bottling.
The nose of this wine is charming with a mix of cherries and raspberries as well as anise, eucalyptus and floral notes drifting up from the glass. Full bodied with just the right amount of luscious fruit and hints of chocolate. Sleek and harmonious, the 2015 Il Favot is approachable yet pleasingly complex. A serious wine with an exceptionally long finish.

See detailed press reviewThis wine’s black and red cherry flavors feel vibrant and ripe, dense enough to sustain their freshness through 18 months in new barriques. The oak influence feels dominant at first, with notes of clove and vanilla, but with time in the glass, the bright fruit flavors burst through with notes of raspberry and mint, leading to a long and energetic finish. A few years in the cellar will allow the oak flavors to meld, making this a delicious match for braised beef agnolotti.
See detailed press reviewCherry, licorice, leather and earth flavors are the hallmarks of this elegant, balanced red. Expressive, lingering with fruit, spice and mineral elements.
