La Grande Année Rosé is another expression of La Grande Année, enhanced by the addition of an iconic red wine from the La Côte aux Enfants vineyard. This legendary Aÿ parcel is owned entirely by Champagne Bollinger, and is only vinified into a red wine during years when the grapes reach optimum ripeness. After vinification in small old oak barrels and long lees ageing, every bottle of La Grande Année Rosé is still riddled and disgorged by hand. In this way, it reflects all the expertise and savoir-faire of a Maison capable of creating a cuvée whose quality is matched only by its purity.
Delicate rose in colour, with flashes of salmon pink. Little by little, the wine reveals layers of complexity, successively imparting notes of strawberry and redcurrant subtly blended with citrus and vine peach. An initial touch of menthol brings vibrant freshness. The palate is full of the crunch of red berry fruit and a lingering juiciness that evolves into an expressive finish underpinned with notes of citrus peel and blood orange.
Like a racing spinnaker, this is tightly trimmed yet voluminous in character. Toasty notes of roasted almond and vanilla wafer are deftly integrated with sun-dried black cherry, baked peach, blood orange sorbet and candied ginger flavors, all well-defined by racy acidity and a subtle streak of salinity. This is long and fragrant, with pain d'épices, graphite and tea rose notes playing on the finish.

The 2014 Rosé La Grande Année is airy, gracious and full of energy. Crushed rocks, white pepper, red berry, mint and blood orange lend striking aromatic intensity and presence. Finely cut and taut, the Rosé is a nervy Champagne that needs time to come together. The Rosé is blended from a base of the Blanc plus 5% still red Pinot from Bollinger’s Coteaux des Enfants vineyard in Aÿ. Perhaps because of its later disgorgement vis-à-vis the Blanc, the Rosé is a bit tight today. Disgorged: August, 2021. Dosage: 8 grams per liter.

Made with 8 grams per liter dosage and disgorged in March of 2022, the 2014 Champagne La Grande Annee Rosé Brut pours a pale salmon hue and is floral with aromas of floral perfume and refined layers of fresh peach, cherry blossom, framboise, and almond croissant. Refreshing on the palate, it has a chalky texture and a long finish, with a tinge of bitter orange peel citrus that lifts on the back palate. This wonderful rosé is developing nicely, and I may like this one more now than I did last year.

This graceful rosé Champagne has a lovely, creamy viscosity, enfolding aromas and flavors of ripe apricot and plum fruit, toasted almond, tea rose, dried mint and pickled ginger. This version's lush flavors and texture are well-meshed with and enlivened by a firm streak of racy acidity, with a chalky underpinning emerging to drive the finish. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

The 2012 La Grande Année Rosé is airy, gracious and so wonderfully inviting. Crushed flowers, mint, white pepper and red berry fruit are all gracefully woven together. Today, the 2012 is naturally quite young and still shows the tension of a Champagne that was disgorged just a few months ago. Readers who prefer Champagnes with softer edges and a bit more flavor complexity will want to cellar the 2012. I have to admit, I very much like the wine today, in its youthful state, where its energy and focus are front and center. The 2012 is a blend of 67% Pinot Noir and 33% Chardonnay taken from 21 villages built around a core of Aÿ and Verzenay Pinot Noir and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oiry Chardonnay, crus that are quite complementary. Disgorged January 2020. Dosage is 8 grams per liter.

Since its inception in 1976, this cuvée has been anchored in the white rendition of La Grande Année, complemented—this year by 5%—with red wine from La Côte aux Enfants vineyard in Aÿ. Disgorged in May 2025 with a dosage of seven grams per liter, Bollinger’s 2018 La Grande Année Rosé reveals aromas of peach, crisp red apple and blood orange mingled with redcurrant. Medium- to full-bodied, it opens with a textural attack that segues into a muscular palate, where delicate aromatic bitters gradually assert themselves along a sapid, persistent finish. While many wines from this solar vintage display comparatively soft, moderately concentrated profiles, this is not one of them.

After eight years from harvest, this Champagne is beautifully balanced. Touches of toast and a rounded texture still are lifted by the taut, minerality and complexity. This is an impressive wine with a long, lingering, memorable aftertaste that will age further, although it is ready to drink.
