About this winery
Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Colline Teramane is Abruzzo’s jewel in the crown, a fact confirmed by its promotion to DOCG status in 2003. Product notes
The Pecorino vineyard is trained with a vertical trellis system with a density of approximately 5,600 stocks per hectare. The rows are south-west oriented. The are located in the municipality of Controguerra, 250 metres a.s.l. and contain rather fresh, medium-textured soil similar to clay.
Production notes
The Pecorino grapes are hand-picked after careful selection usually during the second week of September, but this is dependent on climate conditions. The grapes are de-stemmed and crushed very softly; the must is statically decanted before being poured into thermo-conditioned stainless steel tanks to ferment at a controlled temperature ranging between 16° and 18°C. Approximately 10% of the must is fermented for 4 months in barriques to release a moderate “boisè” and a finer character.
Tasting notes
Straw yellow with greenish highlights. The nose is fragrant with rich ripe fruit and white flowers, almonds, field herbs, citrus fruits, and a hint of spice.
The wine is powerful and persistent with a beautiful balance between structure and softness due to the freshness and pleasant flavours that accompany the long finish.
