About this winery

The KRIS winery is located in the beautiful hillside town of Montagna, located in the Northern Italian region of Alto Adige. Here you will find a unique combination of German history and Italian nationality working in unison to produce wines that are artistic, but are born out of modern winemaking practices. KRIS’ beautifully designed labels are the work of Riccardo Schweizer, a good friend of the winery owner and also a native of Northern Italy. Schweizer, who spent many years studying...

Production notes

The KRIS winemakers take full advantage of the “delle Venezie” designation by marrying the best fruit from the appellation’s three permitted regions to yield a Pinot Grigio with an unusually expressive flavor profile. Veneto fruit provides the delicate floral notes and the classic almond finish so typical of this region. Grapes sourced from the southwest-facing slopes of the village of Montagna in Alto Adige receive ample sun and contribute ripe yet fresh citrus and pear fruit. The Mulinat estate in Friuli, where the soils are gravelly and well drained produce low-yielding fruit that helps to intensify flavor. The final blend shows depth of flavor in a bold, Northern Italian style.

Tasting notes

Brilliant lemon-green in color, KRIS offers enticing aromas of acacia flowers, citrus, tangerine, and hints of almonds. Recommended with risotto, tossed salads, homemade pasta and grilled white meats or salmon.

February 2025 (Vintage 2024)

There’s an enticing shadow of pink color in the glass, typical of pinot grigio. The aromas and flavors are in the baked-apple, pear-drop and table-grape fruit zone, together with a stony note that turns denser and provides a silky, grainy mouthfeel on the fullish-bodied palate. Nicely placed acidity keeps it all fresh and gives a bright fruit and mineral finish.

December 2024 (Vintage 2023)

This wine's nose is a total showoff, wafting out of the glass like it's on a mission to impress. It's a graceful blend of orchard fruits with a flirty citrus blossom wink. The palate plays it safe, solid but not quite ready to party. Green apple skin and a salty kick on the finish.
