Viu Manent is a historic, family-owned winery located in the heart of Chile’s renowned Colchagua Valley. Founded in 1935 by Catalan immigrant Miguel Viu García and his sons, the winery originally operated as a wine trading company in Santiago. Their winemaking journey truly took shape in 1966 when the family acquired the San Carlos de Cunaco estate, a property rich in heritage with old-vine plantings and deep viticultural roots. This marked the beginning of their commitment to producing estate-grown wines that reflect the character of their unique terroir. Today, the winery is led by José Miguel Viu, representing the third generation of the Viu family. Under his guidance, Viu Manent has become one of Chile’s most respected producers, known particularly for their pioneering work with Malbec. In fact, they were the first winery in Chile to bottle a 100% Malbec wine back in 1993—helping to shape the variety’s identity in the region. The estate spans over 250 hectares across three key vineyard sites—San Carlos, El Olivar, and La Capilla—where they cultivate both red and white varieties, with a strong focus on sustainability and respect for the land. Viu Manent is not only celebrated for the quality of its wines but also for its leadership in wine tourism and sustainability. The winery has implemented eco-conscious initiatives such as solar power, efficient water use, and biodiversity conservation, and was the first in Chile to receive “Purple Certification” for sustainable wine tourism. International recognition has followed: the winery was named “Winery of the Year” by Wines of Chile in 2017 and consistently ranks among the World’s Best Vineyards. With a legacy built on tradition, innovation, and stewardship, Viu Manent continues to be a shining example of Chilean excellence on the global stage.
