About this winery

Olivier Humbrecht is one of the world's most renowned winegrowers. He is a Master of Wine and has been described by Robert Parker as the greatest white winemaker on earth. Yet he is very soft spoken, humble, and self-deprecating, which makes him perfectly suited to his assumed role as a global ambassador of wine. He is a champion of terroir, biodynamic farming principles, and non-interventionist winemaking, whose family have been winegrowers in Alsace for 12 generations (since 1620). He is...

Product notes

Bottling date: 8/2016; Alcohol: 12° alc; Residual sweetness: <2 g/l; Total Acidity 3.7 g/l H2SO4 (5.7g/l Tar), pH: 3.2; Yields: 77 hl/ha; Optimum drinking period: 2017-2027; Average age of the vines: 31 years; Terroir: gravely/silt on valley floor; Indice 1. Originating from the Herrenweg area and its surroundings, this wine is made from vineyards that all enjoy a precocious and warm climate. This was certainly amplified in 2015, and of all the grapes planted in this area, Riesling was the one that we feared for the most. Luckily, the end of July and August rainfalls did wonders. The vines started to grow again, turned greener and looked normal again. Véraison was homogenous and fast, allowing us to harvest early. The grapes were very healthy and showed already powerful aromatic potential on the taste. Unusually for this grape, the fermentation was also very fast and finished only when the wine was bone dry.

December 2016 (Vintage 2015)

A solid riesling with sliced-apple and lime aromas and flavors. Cement and stone undertones. Pretty, phenolic texture. Medium to full body, a bone-dry palate and a gorgeous finish. Rich and flavorful yet only 11.5% alcohol. Don't miss this. Biodynamically grown grapes all from around the winery in Turckheim.

April 2018 (Vintage 2016)

Bright straw. Very floral, intensely aromatic Riesling nose with hints of lemon verbena and jasmine plus fresh citrus fruit. Then very pure and clean, offering juicy orchard fruit and powdered stone elements. An enticing easy-to-drink quality makes this wine go down like water. Finishes long and mineral. Made from roughly 20- to 30-year-old vines (the oldest ones are actually 50 to 60 years old and grow in the high-quality Herrenweg lieu-dit)...Lovely entry-level wine.

February 2017 (Vintage 2015)

A limey nose introduces a really juicy lemon and tangerine palate, with a hint of zest and pith on the mid-palate. Incredibly pure fruit expression with a good length, this is a great introduction to Alsatian Riesling.

August 2017 (Vintage 2015)

A fresh, crowd-pleasing white, with floral and fresh herb accents to the flavors of nectarine, guava, stone and spice. A light- to medium-bodied Riesling that's broad and creamy, backed by a firm frame of crunchy acidity.
