JOSEPH PHELPS

Insignia 2010

The 09 Insignia remains true to form blending several sites and grapes. The varietal mix is 83/13/4 cabernet sauvignon, petit verdot and malbec from several Napa Valley sites: Stags Leap District, St. Helena, Napa Valley and Oak Knoll District. The ferment takes place over 40 days before the wine spends two years in new French oak. The colour is almost opaque with a rich sweet spice nose of blueberries and black fruits. The attack is surprisingly supple for its youth, the tannins slippery and long, the flavours of berry fruits flecked with floral mineral aspects that add complexity and length. This requires five to seven years in the cellar to fully mature. (AG-ST)
