Clos de Vougeot Grand cru 2014

- 94 points -

The subtly oaked and markedly earthy nose is brooding if highly complex with its range of red pinot, dark berries, forest floor and tea-like nuances. There is excellent richness and mid-palate concentration to the powerful and mouth coating big-bodied flavors that deliver fine length on the balanced finish that is less austere than usual. This is first-rate and a wine that will also age for years yet my sense is that it will be approachable after only 7 to 8.

About Burghound.com

Burghound.com is the result of a nearly lifelong passion for the wines of Burgundy. For more than 30 years, I have been collecting the wines and visiting the region. Each year I spend nearly five months visiting, researching, tasting, exploring and evaluating. Burgundy is my obsession really. Expanding on my coverage of the coveted pinot noir grape, each issue provides continuous coverage of both Oregon and California pinot noir, with rotating coverage of Champagne and occasional special reports from other pinot producing regions.
