Cabernet Sauvignon Revana Estate 2016

- 94 points -

The ’14 and ’15 vintages were acclaimed, but 2016 is likely the best I have experienced for cabernet sauvignon from Napa in decades. Winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown and vineyard manager Jim Barbour have been focused on biodynamic farming practices at Revana Vineyard, and in 2016 only four individual vineyard blocks made it into the Estate Vineyard Cabernet. The nose is more floral with a light hint of exotic five spice. The attack is fresh with rich blackberry flecked with fig jam and smoky, cedar toasted oak. I like the elegance here but don’t be fooled; there is plenty of power lurking underneath. Drink or hold five to seven years. The Estate Cab is picked over 10 days from September 13 to 23. It is clone 337 from the St. Helena AVA. It spends 20 months in French Oak and 12 months in bottle before release. Only 100 six-packs were made.
