Amarone della Valpolicella 2009

- 95 points -

Roccolo Grassi's 2009 Amarone della Valpolicella is a great choice for drinking today and over the next decade. Sweet black cherries, plums, menthol, tobacco and licorice flesh out in an Amarone endowed with tremendous power and pure voluptuousness. The 2009 is round, open and beautifully inviting. I would cellar the 2008 and enjoy the 2009 pretty much upon release. There is so much to like here. The French oak should be fully absorbed in another year or two.
