(raised entirely in stainless steel tanks) Bright violet. High-pitched red berry and floral scents develop a hint of white pepper as the wine opens up. Juicy, focused and light on its feet, offering tensile red currant and bitter cherry flavors that deepen on the back half. Distinctly lively and precise, delivering a strong closing jab of minerality and very good red-fruit-driven persistence. I'd love to see this wine lined up alongside some top-notch Beaujolais; there's outstanding value here and there's no way that I'd have guessed it was carrying 14 percent alcohol.
