Black cherries, menthol, grilled herbs, violets and licorice burst from the glass in the 2010 Valpolicella Superiore. Firm yet nicely integrated tannins give the 2010 its substantial energy, weight and power, all of which it carries beautifully. Far from an easygoing Valpolicella, the 2010 is a fabulous wine to savor over the next decade. In 2010, the estate did not make an Amarone, all the best fruit went into the Valpolicella, which in this vintage is 50% dried fruit and 50% freshly harvested fruit. The tannins are a bit serious for a Valpolicella, but the wine, well, it is simply beautiful.
