Finally, an Argentine classic gets an update with a snazzy new water colour-bedecked label. Catena’s Malbec has long been a benchmark for high altitude-grown Malbec grapes, and now the winery stakes the claim with their “High Mountain Vines” moniker. This is classy, balanced Malbec that toes the line between sumptuous fruit and structured savoury grit. It’s both assertive and elegant, which makes it a fine partner for grilled steak or mushroom Wellington.

Bottom line: A- “In a word: supple.”
