About this winery

Argiano is a beautiful estate in the southern western portion of the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. The estate has a long history of excellence in the region and is reaching new heights under new ownership. The 120 ha property follows the traditional Tuscan model of mixed land use featuring vineyards, olive groves and woodlands. A majestic Renaissance villa is also housed on the property making this one of the loveliest visits in the region. Argiano produces brilliant examples of Brunello and...

Product notes

Non Confunditur’s initials N.C., are often thought to refer to Noemi Cinzano, Argiano's longstanding owner. The truth however is 'Non Confunditur' is the Latin term written on Argiano’s crest and was the motto of the former owners, the Lovateli Gaetani d'Aragona family. We baptized this wine as Non Confunditur to honor the prestigious and glorious past of Argiano. Non Confunditur is a unique marriage of both Tuscan and French grapes. Since 2002, NC has taken its place next to the best Tuscan blends.

Tasting notes

The wine is fermented in stainless steel and by variety in two and three-year-old oak. Expect plummy, savoury, wild berry aromas with a touch of oak, while on the palate, it is a medium rich red with earthy, savoury, Tuscan red-black fruits you can drink or hold. For now, grilled meats or spaghetti Bolognese are good matches.

July 2021

Dark berries with walnuts, hazelnuts and white pepper on the nose, following through to a full body with ultra-fine tannins and a chewy yet refined finish.

James Suckling, August 2020 (Vintage 2018)

The ripe berries with delicate chocolate and hazelnut undertones are very attractive, as are the dusty tannins and herbal, berry and light tobacco undertones at the finish. Just a little more time will make it all the better. Try after 2021.

December 2021 (Vintage 2019)

Vibrant yet silky, boasting black cherry, blackberry, violet and iron flavors. The iron fist emerges by way of the firm tannins, and this finishes with a long aftertaste of fruit and dried herbs. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Sangiovese.

October 2023 (Vintage 2021)

Taut and linear in profile, this red delivers black currant, black cherry, vanilla and peppery spices. Tightens up on the finish, where the chalky tannins linger. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese.

June 2021

A bit reserved, with ample black cherry, black currant and spice flavors set within a solid structure. Fresh and focused, it lingers, echoing the fruit and adding an iron note. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Sangiovese.

Anthony Gismondi, March 2023 (Vintage 2021)

Non-Confunditur, or “not to be confused or unique,” is on the Argiano family crest. In many ways, it describes the direction of winemaker Bernardino Sani, responsible for this Super Tuscan mix of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and sangiovese. The fruit comes off younger 15 to 20 year old organically farmed vines leaving Sani to describe NC as a baby or junior Super Tuscan. The softness and roundness pull you into the glass, offering savoury wild notes of sage and violets mixed with juicy blueberry, black raspberry, with a stony mineral underside. Long, ripe, and sweet spiced, this wine overdelivers right now. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged in two and three year old oak. We loved this wine with a plate of grilled sausages and dry hard cheeses. Big value here.

January 2022 (Vintage 2019)

The zesty 2019 Non Confunditur wafts up with a darkly alluring yet also wonderfully fresh bouquet, as blackberries and currants give way to rubbed sage and crushed ashen stone. This is silky-smooth and soothing, casting a polished display of black and red berries across the palate, as mineral-driven tension forms toward the close. Sweet tannins create a sensation of youthful poise, yet they don't get in the way of the primary fruits that saturate throughout the long finish. Non Confunditur is refined in second and third-pass barriques and tonneaux, and it is composed primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon along with 20% Merlot and 10% Sangiovese.
