Azelia is still something of a Barolo lover's secret. Though the estate is not a high-profile one, proprietor Luigi Scavino is cousin of Enrico Scavino of the renowned Paolo Scavino estate, and shares ownership of the famed Fiasco hill in Castiglione Falletto with him. Notes about product
The vineyard stands on a hill in front of the homonymous church of San Rocco. The clay present in this soil gives the mouth an intense energy. Grapes sourced from 1.5 hectares in Serralunga d'Alba with vines of an average age of 55 years. South facing exposure with clay and calcareous soil.
San Rocco gives an impression of great power, austerity, with an incredible aging potential. The wine results in great structure, deepness, fully showing an intense complexity. Fermentation takes place in Rotofermenters and the juice is Vinified for 22 days at an average temperature of 31 °C. the wine Ages for 24 months in small barrels, 10% new.
Here Serralunga is present with signs of licorice, spices and dark fruits. Cherry, currant and blueberry melt harmoniously together. Velvety and sweetly ripe, with splendidly integrated tannins.
