About this winery

Dog Point Vineyard is one of the oldest privately established vineyards in Marlborough. Established in 2002 by partners, Ivan & Margaret Sutherland, and James & Wendy Healy. Dog Point Vineyard is located at the confluence of the Brancott and Omaka Valleys in Marlborough, New Zealand’s premium wine growing region. The name “Dog Point” dates from earliest...

October 2021

Flinty, reductive notes open up to lime zest, white grapefruit, dried pineapple, hay, white pepper and hints of praline. Medium-bodied with sharp acidity and a phenolic, tight and taut palate. Focused and long.

November 2022 (Vintage 2020)

Layers of crushed stones, smoked almonds, green apples, lemon pith, white pepper, licorice and oyster shells. It's so powerful and concentrated. Tightly wound and phenolic with a medium body and sharp acidity. Intense, and just keeps going. Always a sophisticated and complex sauvignon blanc.

This is a beautiful and complex wine with sliced apples, lemons, bread dough and salted pie crust. Some grass. Always subtle and complex yet shows intensity. Medium body. Lovely acid balance and an excellent finish. White pepper. Dry. Always excellent.

May 2023 (Vintage 2020)

Stunning, with a complex, aromatic mix of beeswax, litsea oil, vetiver and honeysuckle notes up front, followed by ripe peach, melon and lemon curd flavors at the juicy core. Reveals whiffs of grilled lemon and smoke that swirl around the flavors, as well as a hint of crushed rock minerality on a supple, seamless frame. Gains momentum on the epic finish.

November 2023 (Vintage 2020)

The 2020 Section 94 Sauvignon Blanc is ripe (14% alcohol), but it carries it so well. The wine is weighty (emphasized by time in older oak barrels) and wide—there is a smoky/dusty/earthy/campfire sort of character in the background, while the fruit reaches from kiwi, green apple, lemon flesh, lemongrass, tatami mat, enoki mushroom and even hints of white miso. While the estate Sauvignon Blanc is elegant, lean and refined, this is powerful, complex and expansive. This is a wine that will drink better in the future than it does now—the structuring and inherent power make for an exciting future discussion. Sealed under screw cap.
