In the 14th century, during their stays in Avignon, the popes – especially Pope John XXII – built a papal castle in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Impressed by the area’s exceptional soils, they established vineyards on the slopes surrounding the château and were instrumental in promoting the local wine’s reputation around the world. The 2018 vintage was marked by abundant rain that brought welcome relief to the Provençal vegetation that was able to recover after a particularly dry summer in 2017. Combined with high temperatures during the growing season, this humidity resulted in unprecedented levels of mildew in the vines and consequently very low yields. Fortunately the frequent use of essential oils and plant based tisanes, biodynamic practices, and a magnificent autumn, limited the damage and enabled superb grapes.
The grapes are hand-picked and sorted in the vineyard. Long, gentle pressing, co-fermentation in small oak foudres. Matured for 6 months in these same foudres.
Made from old vines of different varieties growing together, with moderate yields, the Boisrenard white is characterized by its beautiful smoothness and notes of salinity. A highly distinguished wine.

See detailed press reviewBeaurenard's top white—and one of the best in the appellation—is the 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Cuvee Boisrenard, a wood-aged blend of 42% Clairette, 32% Roussanne, 11% Bourboulenc, 10% Grenache Blanc and bits of Grenache Gris, Picardan, Picpoul Blanc and Picpoul Gris. Subtle toast elements (it's fermented and aged in a mix of foudres and used barrels) frame ripe citrus and pineapple in a wine that's round, ripe and full-bodied, plush yet long and crisp on the finish.
