About this winery

The Chave family is the epitome of 'People, Place and Time'. They have been vignerons in the Rhône valley since 1481 - an astonishing 16 generations. Notes about product

Chave generally has financed his sources and purchases grapes by a sharecropping arrangement. He has more or less complete control over the farming, which is organic. The grapes are shipped to Chave’s facility inside his Saint-Joseph Le Clos site in Mauves.

Winemaking notes

Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks and aging is in an assortment of new and old barrels, demi-muids and large foudres. At the end of maturation, the wines are assembled and transported to the original “Selections Cellar” next to the Domaine, where the wines undergo filtration and are bottled.

Jeb Dunnuck, December 2019

A gem of a Côtes Du Rhône, the 2017 Mon Coeur from the Chave family sports a deep ruby/purple color as well as a ripe, perfumed bouquet of black raspberries, garrigue, melted licorice, and ground pepper. This medium to full-bodied, exuberant, undeniably sumptuous 2017 is ideal for drinking over the coming 5-7 years.

Deep ruby. Pungent red and blue fruit and floral scents are complemented by suggestions of succulent herbs and white pepper. Lively, penetrating and appealingly sweet, showing good depth as well as detail to the black raspberry, cherry and floral pastille flavors. Finishes long and smoky, with supple tannins coming in late.
