About this winery

Historically Macon was known primarily as a source of vast quantities of cheap white wines made by village cooperatives - reliable everyday wines, but no match for the great whites of the Cote de Beaune. Notes about product

Clay and limestone that is very high red iron oxide on the Bajocian. This is grown on the highest and most stony part of « les Quarts ». The vineyard is East facing with 80 year old vines on a 20% slope.

Winemaking notes

Hand-picked grapes with whole berries pressing. The wine is 100% vinified and aged in oak barrels (228 liters each) for 11 months. It spends a further 6 months in tank for a natural settling.

Tasting notes

The Cuvée Millerandée is a selection of older vines in « Les Quarts » (70+ years old). The word « Millerandé » describes grapes whose natural fertilization partly failed due to the vine’s old age, and the nature of the soil and sub-soil found on parts of the « Quarts ». Indeed the « Millerandées » berries are so small that they concentrate sugars, organic acids and aroma precursors.

92+ POINTS

August 2019

Offering up notes of orange rind, white flowers, honeyed orchard fruit and peaches, it's full-bodied, deep and lowered, but while it's rich and powerful, it lacked the amplitude and drama of which it's capable, at least on this showing. Perhaps it just needs more time, so I'll try to re-taste it before the end of year.
