Historically Macon was known primarily as a source of vast quantities of cheap white wines made by village cooperatives - reliable everyday wines, but no match for the great whites of the Cote de Beaune. But that was then and this is now, and today Macon's whites are recognized to be among the very best wine values on the planet. Clay and limestone with very high red iron oxide on Bajocian. This occurs on the highest and most stony part of « les Quarts ». East, South-East facing. 20% slope.
Hand-picked grapes, whole berry pressing, 100% vinified and aged in oak barrels (228 liters each) for 11 months. The wine spends an additional 6 more in tank for a natural settling.
Perfectly positioned South-East facing 50 - 80 year-old Chardonnay vines planted on living clay and limestone soil (Bajocian with a lot of siliceous crystals) give birth to wines that stand the test of time. A great Burgundy with a citrus mineral nose, exquisite balance, complexity, and full-bodied richness.
