About this winery

Historically Macon was known primarily as a source of vast quantities of cheap white wines made by village cooperatives - reliable everyday wines, but no match for the great whites of the Cote de Beaune. But that was then and this is now, and today Macon's whites are recognized to be among the very best wine values on the planet. Notes about product

Clay and limestone with very high red iron oxide on Bajocian. This occurs on the highest and most stony part of « les Quarts ». East, South-East facing. 20% slope.

Winemaking notes

Hand-picked grapes, whole berry pressing, 100% vinified and aged in oak barrels (228 liters each) for 11 months. The wine spends an additional 6 more in tank for a natural settling.

Tasting notes

Perfectly positioned South-East facing 50 - 80 year-old Chardonnay vines planted on living clay and limestone soil (Bajocian with a lot of siliceous crystals) give birth to wines that stand the test of time. A great Burgundy with a citrus mineral nose, exquisite balance, complexity, and full-bodied richness.

Treve Ring, December 2019

From east facing vines up to 60 years old, this is a powerful, barrel-fermented and aged, lees-bedded wine, intense with smoked quartz notes, salted lemon, and fine grained minerality that lingers on the finish. Very complete. 94/100

August 2019

The 2017 Pouilly-Vinzelles Les Quarts is excellent, unwinding in the glass with a complex bouquet of Anjou pear, crisp green apple, mint and orange zest. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, with a caressing attack, excellent depth at the core, lively acids and a long, precise finish.
