About this winery

The Latour-Giraud estate has been established in the village of Meursault for many generations. Focused primarily on Meursault, the estate owns an impressive range of Premier Cru and Villages vineyards between 20 and 50+ years old, such as the largest Premier Cru Genevrières vineyard in which two thirds of the vines are more than 50 years old. A somber, even brooding, nose features notes of ripe dark berries, newly turned earth and a whiff of spice. The fresh, full-bodied and intense middle weight flavors display a touch of rusticity on the youthfully austere finale. This will need a few to further flesh out and add depth.

An earthy and pepper-inflected nose reflects notes of red and dark currant that flashes discreet nuances of spice. The succulent, round and nicely intense medium weight flavors deliver fine length on the ever-so-slightly warm finish. This is mostly built on its fruit yet that won’t prevent it from aging if that’s your preference.

(from Les Vignots). An earthy dark berry fruit nose displays top notes of violet where the earth character is also found on the rich and punchy middle weight flavors that possess a lovely mouth feel, all wrapped in a lingering finish. This is not especially concentrated but I like the balance and complexity.

April 2023 (Vintage 2021)

(2/3 from Les Vignots and 1/3 from the 1er Refène). Excellent limpid ruby color. Fresh if somber aromas include those of forest floor, red currant, dark cherry and a hint of the sauvage. I very much like the texture of the equally polished and sleek medium-bodied flavors that also flash evident minerality on the tension-filled, youthfully austere and balanced finish that isn’t quite as persistent. This should repay up to a decade of keeping yet there is sufficient mid-palate fat to allow it to be enjoyed young too.
