About this winery

The Morey family is one of the most well-known in the Côte de Beaune. The family name can be traced back for more than five generations in the villages of Chassagne and Meursault, and today great wines are produced at both Domaine Pierre Morey and Domaine Jean-Marc Morey. Since the mid-nineties Domaine Marc Morey has been an estate on the rise, under the stewardship of Marie-Jo Morey and her winemaker husband Bernard Mollard. Today, the estate is run by Marie-Jo and Bernard's daughter Sabine,...

January 2016

I tasted this twice this year and was blown away by its quality on both occasions. Typically stylish, yet reserved at the same time, this comes from a parcel at the top of the hill and it shows in the racy, green apple freshness of the wine. Smoky minerality adds a layer of complexity.

Note: from a whopping 2.02 ha parcel, which effectively means that the Domaine owns 89% of the appellation; because the other owner does not declare the wine under En Virondot, Mollard has what she jokingly calls a "commercial" monopole
Producer note: Sabine Mollard was uncharacteristically effusive about the 2014 noting succinctly that "I love this vintage and in particular its transparency and purity. The reds are good but the whites are great. I chose to begin picking on the 12th of September and harvested under pretty much perfect conditions save for one rainy morning. The fruit was both clean and ripe so there was very little sorting necessary. The potential alcohols were in the 12.5 to 12.9% range which is ideal for what I want to make. Yields were also very good without being excessive. I really like this vintage and would happily sign a contract now to have this level of quality every year." The whites were bottled between August 2015 and January 2016.
