About this winery

With over 60 years of professional experience, Santa Ema are pioneers in the Maipo Valley where they are always searching for the best expressions of terroir, from the mountains to the coast. The beginnings of Santa Ema date back to the beginning of the 20th century, when don Pedro Pavone Voglino, an Italian immigrant, sportsperson, and businessman, discovered a great terroir in Isla de Maipo, where the head offices still operate today. Product notes

The 2018 harvest began a little later than normal due to a cold and rainy spring followed by a temperate summer. High temperatures in March and April allowed the fruit to finish ripening and also helped compensate for the late start on the harvest, which ended in early May. The quality was very good, and despite yields that were higher than expected, the wines have good aromatic intensity and acidity, desirable volume, character, freshness, and rounded tannins.

Production notes

50% of the grapes underwent a 4-hour pre-fermentation maceration at 50ºF (10ºC) and the remaining 50% was whole-cluster pressed. The must was clarified and fermented at 55ºF (13ºC) for 25 days. The wine was fined and bottled immediately to preserve all of the Leyda Valley’s cold-climate expression.

Tasting notes

Very complex with aromas of fresh-cut grass, passion fruit, and grapefruit, all framed by mineral notes. Perfectly balanced with firm expression and a long, refreshing finish. Pair with oysters, ceviche, fresh shellfish, goat cheese, and baked or grilled white fish.

January 2023 (Vintage 2022)

A generous body of ripe white fruit along with intense acidity that recalls limes, this moves through the mouth refreshing everything in its path. It's a big white, a sauvignon for ceviche, but it’s also ideal for quenching thirst. It comes from vineyards near the coast of the Leyda Valley, in the hills of the Coastal Range.
