About this winery

Sette Ponti reflects the vision of Dr. Antonio Moretti, who took over the estate from his father in the late 1990's, and immediately began producing estate-bottled wines. Notes about product

Crognolo is named after the wild bush, Cronus that grows abundantly around the estate. The first vintage of Crognolo was released in 1998. The Sangiovese is sourced from vines planted in 1988 at 250 metres elevation with a southern exposure. The soils are a mix of compact sand and clay. The vineyards have always been in an ecological way and in 2014 the process to obtain organic certification started. As of 2017, Crognolo is made from vineyards that are certified organic.

Winemaking notes

The wine was fermented at a controlled temperature for 20 days followed by maceration. Aged in used French oak barriques, then bottle aged for 6 months.

Tasting notes

Ample aromas reminiscent of ripe cherry and berries, well blended with spicy notes that give class and complexity. Round, harmonious and vibrant on the palate showing depth and perfect tannic texture

April 2019

A balanced and fresh red for the hot 2017 vintage with medium body, fine tannins and plenty of currants, blackberries and blueberries on the finish.

December 2019

A beam of pure blackberry runs through this otherwise dense and focused red. Shows elegance, with balance and complexity, but needs time to integrate and reveal all its facets. Offers fine, minerally length. Sangiovese and Merlot.
