Leave it to Giancarlo Pacenti to make one of the most polished Rossos of 2017. Sleek and racy, with tons of persistence, the 2017 is super-expressive today. Dark cherry, spice, menthol, licorice and espresso all run through this mid-weight, striking Rosso. All the elements are impeccably balanced, in a pliant, racy Rosso that delivers the goods. This is such a delicious wine.

Novembre 2023 (Millésime 2021)

Dark and brooding, the 2021 Rosso di Montalcino is at first rich and opulent, with an array of plum sauce and licorice. It gains an earthy balance as minty herbs and cedar shavings join the fray. This is like pure silk on the palate, with a measured inner sweetness perfectly contrasted by orange and tart wild berry fruits cascading throughout. The 2021 takes on a crunchy sensation through the long and dramatic finale as sour cranberry and orange sorbet suggestions slowly fade. As is typically the case, Siro Pacenti balances exoticism with refinement in a way that I find wildly attractive.

Août 2022 (Millésime 2020)

Focused and fresh with crushed-berry and cherry aromas with some peach. Medium body, firm tannins and a bright, linear finish. Solid Rosso, as always.

(Millésime 2019)

Wild raspberries, hints of clove and sweet minty herbs lift up to form an inviting bouquet as the 2019 Rosso di Montalcino opens up in the glass. While silky in feel, there’s tremendous concentration here, motivated by brisk acids, drenching the palate in tart wild berries and minerals. Grippy tannins linger long, making for a lightly structured and penetrating finale. This full-throttle yet balanced Rosso is showing beautifully.

Octobre 2022 (Millésime 2020)

An airy mix of freshly shaved pine, white smoke, dried cherries and vanilla bean lifts from the youthfully inward 2020 Rosso di Montalcino. There's a pleasant inner sweetness up front that marries perfectly to the depths of mineral-tinged black cherry fruits within. Through it all, zesty acidity maintains fantastic balance, as the 2020 finishes grippy and long, leaving licorice and a balsamic herbal twang. All this needs is time to fully express itself.
