Purchased fruit from 0.3ha of 70-year-old vines in the best part of Charmes. 70% whole clusters in the ferment, but the thickest part of the stem was removed. The result has bright blackberry fruit, with a brambly edge, a silky texture and impressive density. This nicely balances the approachable nature of the climat with old-vine density.

An appealingly layered nose reflects notes of lavender and violet along with earthy and fresh red currant aromas that are trimmed in subtle but not invisible wood influence. This is also quite generously proportioned with fine mid-palate concentration to the medium weight flavors that exude a discreet minerality on the powerful and well-balanced finish. This very firmly structured effort needs to develop more depth but as it is going to require extended cellaring, there is a very good chance it will do just that.
