About this winery

Azelia is still something of a Barolo lover's secret. Though the estate is not a high-profile one, proprietor Luigi Scavino is cousin of Enrico Scavino of the renowned Paolo Scavino estate, and shares ownership of the famed Fiasco hill in Castiglione Falletto with him. Luigi, his wife Lorella and son Lorenzo Scavino own and maintain 16 hectares of vines in Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d'Alba (including Cru Barolo from Margheria, San Rocco and Voghera Brea) and Montelupo Albese (for their...

July 2026 (Vintage 2021)

This red is expressive and exudes pure cherry, raspberry, Earl Grey, rose and mineral aromas and flavors. Firms up, giving just a glimpse of its future glory. Harmonious, with well-integrated tannins and a long, mouthwatering aftertaste.

January 2025 (Vintage 2021)

A lovely nose of roses, wild strawberries, lavender and a subtle touch of cedar. The palate is medium-bodied and persistent, with delicate red fruit flavors. It’s concentrated, with lovely balance and elegance.

Michaela Morris, January 2025 (Vintage 2021)

From vines planted in the 1930s, this Bricco Fiasco bottling was first produced in 1978, and in 2021, the family started experimenting with fermentation in wood. Fifth-generation Lorenzo Scavino explains that this has given greater colour stability as well as richer, more complex aromas. A spicy, balsamic introduction of mint and pepper makes way for lifted fragrances of rose and citrus. Lip smacking red summer berries are swathed in sandy tannins. This is spunky and well-structured. A mineral tanginess adds dimension, as does the blood orange finale.

January 2025 (Vintage 2021)

The 2021 Barolo Bricco Fiasco is a super-classic wine from this Castiglione Falleto site. Bright acids and veins of tannin drive through a core of red-toned fruit. White pepper, mint, slate and orange peel all race across the palate. The 2021 Bricco Fiasco is an archetype of excellence. It is one of the finest wines I have tasted here in some time.
