Azelia is still something of a Barolo lover's secret. Though the estate is not a high-profile one, proprietor Luigi Scavino is cousin of Enrico Scavino of the renowned Paolo Scavino estate, and shares ownership of the famed Fiasco hill in Castiglione Falletto with him. The Azelia 2018 Barolo Cerretta is a bold and powerful expression with dark fruit, grilled herb and ferrous notes of rusty iron that stand out strong in this hot vintage. The wine tastes firm and almost salty on the palate with long, polished tannins. This bottle is a shiny gem in this estate portfolio.
