About this winery

Bodega Chacra is located in the Rio Negro Valley of northern Patagonia, 620 miles south of Buenos Aires, roughly equidistant west to east from the Andes Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. It is an idyllic region for grape growing notable for the absence of phylloxera and vine diseases. Due to the region's remoteness the air is unbelievably pristine, creating tremendous luminosity and intensity of sunlight. Notes about product

The vineyards, planted in 1990, grow on slightly sandy soils. Barda’s vineyards are ungrafted with massale selection yielding over 2 kilos per plant.

Winemaking notes

Its structure being rather airy and open, Barda was conceived to be consumed while still fresh and young. Its alcohol percentage is generally low – 12 to 13 percent. It is fermented at low temperatures in round cement tanks, with natural and unfiltered indigenous yeasts.

Tasting notes

Pure, minerally and powerful, with concentrated flavors of red plum and dried raspberry, loaded with powerful meaty notes. Sandalwood accents linger on the finish, showing caressing tannins. Produced from Chacra’s youngest vineyards, Barda has a strong and character and is intended to be versatile – a perfect companion for most foods.

February 2019

A brambly array of bright, ripe dark fruit with a lithe and juicy feel that carries a bold, deliciously fresh array of dark-cherry and blueberry flavors long on the finish. Zingy and energetic.

October 2019

The 2018 Barda saw 60% of the volume matured in concrete to keep the freshness and crunchiness of the Pinot Noir fruit in the wine, and the rest was in barrels for eight months. It's lighter than 2017, which was very concentrated given the extremely low yields, and the wine goes back to the balance of previous years (with normal yields); there's great harmony and purity here. The palate is fresh, the flavors are clean and pure and there is great length. There's great energy. It has to be one of the finest vintages of Barda. This is an incredible value, a great Pinot Noir from Río Negro at a very attractive price point.
