Nestled between 300 and 400 meters above sea level, Cafaggio sits pretty in Tuscany’s golden amphitheater—the Conca d’Oro of Panzano in Chianti. The name says it all: “golden shell” or “golden bowl,” this natural sun-trap is every grape’s dream vacation spot. Product notes

Basilica del Cortaccio, an elite vineyard in Cafaggio, comprises 4.2 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, with sensorial attributes that reflect a fine ‘terroir’, evoking the variety of origin. Produced for the first time in 1989, the Basilica del Cortaccio vineyard is grown according to the principles of organic farming.

Production notes

anual harvesting in mid-October, fermentation at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks, manual pressing and pump-overs and spontaneous malolactic fermentation. Aged for 18 months in French oak (Tronçais and Allier) barriques that have been used once previously (medium-toasted), and bottle-aged for six months before release.

Antonio Galloni, June 2024 (Vintage 2020)

The 2020 Basilica del Cortaccia, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, is laced with dark cherry, plum, lavender, spice, new leather, licorice and mocha. Sumptuous and bold, with tons of character, the Basilica del Cortaccia is another fine effort from Cafaggio. There's a good deal of richness, but it’s nicely balanced. The 2020 spent 18 months in French oak barrels.

July 2024 (Vintage 2020)

Quite ripe if not jammy cassis, blueberry fruit, coffee grounds and spices. Firm and crunchy on the palate, with crisp acidity and a full body. From organically grown grapes. Vegan.
