Family that passed their knowledge from generation to generation, blending collective memory with state-of-the-art science from the new world of viticulture. Notes about product

Grapes are sourced from the San Carlos Vineyard at an altitude of 3576 ft. Alluvial in origin, the soil is loamy/sandy with thick calcareous layers and rounded rocks on the bottom.

Winemaking notes

This wine goes through cold maceration for 3 days at 10ºC. The juice is then fermented for 20 days with a post-fermentation maceration of 10 days. Aged 12 months in barrel (35% new) using 100% French oak.

Tasting notes

Concentrated ripe red berries, a touch of eucalyptus and black pepper, robust tannins and a smooth, lengthy finish.

June 2018

Along with the 2016, I also tasted the following vintage, the 2017 Appellation San Carlos Cabernet Franc. This is from a warmer and slightly riper year, and the wine shows softer and riper. It matured in 100% French oak barrels before it was bottled in 2018.

July 2018

Bright medium ruby-red. Classic aromatic Cabernet Franc nose offers blackberry, spices and violet, plus a faint hint of creosote. Concentrated, floral and energetic, delivering a wonderfully suave, fine-grained texture and a sexy oak element. The finish features building tannins and rising spicy length. A distinctly serious Cabernet Franc for aging. Vigil told me he considers this to be a perfect example of the variety.
