At heart, Catena is a story about family. Family who poured their lives, passion, and spirit into transforming scrub-laden desert into some of the most beautiful and unique vineyards in the world. The Catena wines are a special assemblage of High Mountain Estate Vineyards made by fourth generation vintner, Laura Catena and chief winemaker, Alejandro Vigil. From the marriage of these historic vineyards emerges a wine of unique character that has natural balance, concentration and a distinct varietal identity.
Lots of spice and hints of dried herbs to the currant and berry aromas. Medium to full body. Firm, lightly chewy tannins and a balanced finish.
See detailed press reviewSome bay leaves, haw fruit and sweet red chili pepper to the nose. Juicy and nicely sweet-sour on the medium- to full-bodied palate. Tannins are lightly chewy and structured. Quite flavorful and approachable. Drink now.
See detailed press reviewA majority Cabernet Sauvignon with 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot from Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley that spent 12 months in French barrels, resulting in a degree of complexity. The nose offers black currant, blueberry and pepper and a hint of pyrazine, along with sandalwood and incense notes. Juicy with fine, firm tannins that fill up the mouth before the flavoursome finish.
See detailed press reviewBlackberry and blackcurrant with some dark-tobacco character on the nose, following through to a full-bodied palate with chewy yet polished tannins. Fruit and mineral finish.
See detailed press reviewLots of fresh black and blue fruit on the nose with dried leaves, chocolate orange and rosemary. Medium-bodied with fine, polished tannins. Fresh, creamy cabernet.
See detailed press reviewSimilar to the Malbec, the 2021 Catena Cabernet Sauvignon was also produced in an approachable and commercial style, with good ripeness, some varietal character and a combination of berries, herbs and spicy oak that makes it attractive and easy to understand by most people. It's medium-bodied with clarity of flavors and aromas and fine tannins. It finishes with an herbal and spicy Cabernet note.
See detailed press reviewLess sweet than the straight Catena Malbec, and a better balanced wine in my view, this is an assemblage of Cabernet Sauvignon with 9% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Textured, smooth and nicely focused, it has cassis and blackberry fruit, subtle cinnamon oak spice and a fresh, balancing finish.
See detailed press reviewThe 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Catena contains 7% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot from the Uco Valley and Luján de Cuyo. Garnet red in hue. The nose presents bold notes of redcurrant, hints of roasted red pepper and gentle aromas of fresh bell pepper within an oaky frame. Voluminous and grippy, the acidity is juicy, vibrant and just a bit tart.
