About this winery

At heart, Catena is a story about family. Family who poured their lives, passion and spirit into transforming scrub-laden desert into some of the most beautiful and unique vineyards in the world. Family who, through risk-taking, faith and a little luck, transformed their treasured Mendoza terroir into the fountainhead of the award-winning...

Notes about product

The Adrianna vineyard is located at almost 5,000’ ft elevation in the Gualtallary sub-district of the Tupungato region, Mendoza. The rocky, gravely soil prevents deep root growth and allows for ideal drainage conditions. The cool nights allow for very slow ripening, optimal acid retention and low yields.

Winemaking notes

Grapes were cold settled for 12 hours in stainless steel tanks at 6º C., followed by fermentation in French oak barrels for 45 - 95 days at 16°C. Partial malolactic fermentation. Aged for 12-16 months in 2nd, 3d and 4th use French oak barrels. Unfined and unfiltered.

Aromas of cooked pears, apples, lemons and crushed stones. Salty, too. Full and deep with a solid core of fruit and a bright and citric finish. Very minerally and bright. Starts off slowly and then takes off.

One of two brilliant Chardonnays from the “Grand Cru” site of the Adrianna Vineyard, this focused, refined, low-alcohol white is saline and complex with lovely leesy weight, notes of citrus peel and crème fraîche, stylish oak and a long, satisfying finish. An Argentinian Meursault Premier Cru.
