About this winery

For Pedro Parra the purest expression of his passionate devotion to terroir is Clos des Fous, his collaboration with Francois Massoc, Paco Leyton, and Albert Cussen. Although the project is based in Pedro's home region of Bio Bio, 500km south of Santiago, the focus is not limited to making wines from Bio Bio: rather the idea is to discover (or rediscover) and celebrate great unknown terroirs throughout Chile - a vast and endlessly varied country - that is full of the vibrancy, uniqueness, and...

Notes about product

This blend comes from old vines of dry land, planted on very old red granite soils of the Paleozoic era. Mostly Itata, several vineyards from Cauquenes and San Rosendo. All the vineyards are very small around 2- 5has, is a perfect example of our history and winemaking tradition.

Winemaking notes

Harvested by hand from selected grapes from old vines of dry farming of Itata and Cauquenes. Fermented by the traditional artisan methods. Winemaker Francois Massoc uses selected yeast strains and zero stem inclusion. The elevage is done in vats and stainless steel tanks with 12 months lees contact and a 10 day cold soak.

Tasting notes

Beautiful dark ruby-red color with violet highlights. Outstanding fruit, with a nose full of red berries, black cherry, black pepper hints of violets. Those elements come through on the palate, with fresh black and red fruit, revealing a full-bodied wine. This wine opens generously, very silky and lush on the palate. In mid palate is round and velvety with very fine tannins and the excellent acidity enhance its liveliness and balance.

Luis Gutiérrez, April 2017

A red you want to buy by the case, one of those thirst wines is the 2015 Pour Ma Gueule. It is a complex blend from Cauquenes (Maule) and Itata, with some 50% Cinsault and one-third Cariñena, plus small amounts of Syrah, País and Malbec from old, dry-farmed vineyards. The grapes were separately harvested, fermented and aged in stainless steel and concrete vats and then were blended. It's juicy, ripe and balanced, terribly tasty, not terribly complex but greatly satisfying. All the varieties are nicely assembled, easy but not banal, with the granite minerality in the palate, which is so difficult to find in wines and even more so at this price level. A bargain!

Deep purplish crimson. Pure fruit on granite with real raciness. Lots of chew but not that much persistence at the moment.
