September 2015

Ludivine and Jean Dirler bottled two Rieslings from the Kessler Grand Cru in 2013 (as well as in 2014): the regular one and a selection from the parcel named Heisse Wanne (Kessler H. W.). The "regular" 2013 Riesling Grand Cru Kessler comes from from 45-year-old vines and shows a floral-scented bouquet of ripe and dried white fruit flavors along with pineapple aromas and hints of healthy raisins. Medium-bodied, piquant and with a pronounced acidity this vertically structured Riesling from sandstone is very pure, dry, rather lean and straight on the palate and a little bit harsh in the finish. The aging potential, however, should be good because there is lot of tension and vitality. The grapes were picked late (mid of October) and the wine was bottled with 12.4% alcohol and 3 grams of sugar. Indeed it's a number smaller than its 2012 successor.
