About this winery

Dog Point Vineyard is one of the oldest privately established vineyards in Marlborough. Established in 2002 by partners, Ivan & Margaret Sutherland, and James & Wendy Healy. After working together at Cloudy Bay, Ivan and James decided to return to a more hands-on approach and establish their own wine label. November 2023 (Vintage 2022)

The 2022 Sauvignon Blanc has such a maritime nose of ocean spray, beeswax, saltbush and wet rocks, but it's also steely; there's graphite and pencil shavings. What a joy. In the mouth, the wine floods every available square millimeter with flavor. This is elegant, saturated with fruit flavor and textural too. Super wine. This is a classy estate growing organic fruit (the largest organic grower in New Zealand) and responsible for wines that drink well now and cellar well too. Blue chip. 13% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

September 2022 (Vintage 2022)

Nettles, thyme, green apples and grapefruit on the nose. Medium-bodied, sharp and clean cut with a refreshing core of citrus and green fruit. Vivid. From organically grown grapes.

October 2023 (Vintage 2022)

The colour is a bright, pale straw, and the nose intensely aromatic with granny smith apple, lemon rind, and orange blossoms. The plate is awash in crisp citrus, washed in saline and finished with a subtle tropical note. This wine overdelivers in the glass every year. From the Wairau Valley, Marlborough, the DP sauvignon is picked at 8.4 tonnes/hectare from a vineyard planted over silty-clay loams with some parcels of gravel interspersed. A portion of this wine is fermented using indigenous yeasts, and it is all aged for four months in stainless steel, and bottled without fining.
