About this winery

Domaine de Courcel has been in the hands of the de Courcel family since the 16th century, its 9 hectares situated entirely within the commune of Pommard and comprising some of its finest premier cru sites. For four centuries, the estate has focused on producing wines typical of the Pommard appellation, wines of supreme structure and great finesse. Tasting notes

Candied orange peel on the nose, with a noble vegetal accent. Expressive and intense. The deeply sculpted palate shows volume and a significant amount of tannins enveloped in rich, abundant fruit. This great, broad-shouldered wine will need to focus its fierceness over the very long term. On the back, a lovely, unexpected note of thyme arises.

April 2024 (Vintage 2022)

Liqueur-like aromas of black cherry, plum, kirsch and cassis display a broad array of floral top notes. The impressively scaled large-bodied flavors are incredibly concentrated as the dry extract imparts a sappy texture and almost renders the very firm tannic spine invisible on the dusty, austere and compact finale. This is also old school and ultra-serious so I repeat the advice for the Fremiers, e.g., don’t buy this without the intent to cellar it over the longer-term.
