About this winery

Located high above the town of Ampuis and the Rhône River, Domaine Jamet produces tiny quantities of stunning Côte-Rôtie. The estate was founded in the 1950’s by Joseph Jamet and he began domaine bottling in 1976. In 1991 his son’s Jean-Luc and Jean-Paul took charge of the business slowly acquiring small parcels to expand the estate. Jean-Luc left in 2013 and today Jean-Paul and his wife Corrine run 7 hectares of beautiful vineyards. The estate is spread across 16 different lieux-dits...

Product notes

This grapes for this wine come from 3 different parcels. The first is a young-vine Côte Rôtie. The second is mica schist terroir on a plateau next to Domaine (and outside of Côte Rôtie), and the final parcel is from a plateau above Condrieu.

Production notes

The grapes are 90% de-stemmed, macerated for a two week period, and are aged for 12 months in older barriques (5-6 years of age).

Tasting notes

A stunning wine that is one of the best values you can find. Some even call it a baby Côte Rôtie with its pretty red and black fruit, peppery aromas and a savory note of bacon. On the palate, the wine is soft, elegant, and balanced.

April 2020

Shimmering purple. Spice-accented black and blue fruits on the perfumed nose, along with building spice and floral qualities. Alluringly sweet and expansive on the palate, offering juicy boysenberry and cherry flavors energized by a jolt of juicy acidity. Sneaky tannins add grip to a long, focused finish that leaves floral and spice notes behind. All whole clusters.

January 2022 (Vintage 2020)

The Jamet magic is on full display here, with lacy, fresh aromas of violets, cherry and blueberries marking the nose of the 2020 IGP Collines Rhodaniennes Syrah. Just medium-bodied, it nevertheless delivers immensely satisfying notes of black olives and red raspberries, framed by ineffably silky tannins. Not super long or powerful, it offers a genuine sense of the Jamet house style in a delicious, early-drinking wine.

Josh Raynolds, September 2019 (Vintage 2017)

Deep lurid ruby. Ripe cherry, black raspberry and violet on the perfumed nose. Round and fleshy in the mouth, offering juicy dark fruit, smoked meat and cracked pepper flavors that pick up a sweetening hint of cola on the back half. Finishes smooth and long, showing good energy and fine-grained tannins that come in late.

February 2022 (Vintage 2020)

Moving to the reds, the 2020 IGP Collines Rhodaniennes Syrah has lots of black raspberry, pepper, and subtle gamey notes in a medium-bodied, silky, satisfying package. It has plenty of classic Jamet flair.
