Tasting notes

Aromas of red fruits, such as cherries and strawberries. As it opens, a little black fruit combined with a spicy character of black pepper and cinnamon. Medium acidity. Horizontal mouth.

March 2025 (Vintage 2023)

This shows aromas of plums and cola candy. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, round yet incisive, delicate and subtle. Reminiscent of Oregon rather than Central Otago in style. Lovely balance.

May 2025 (Vintage 2023)

The 2023 Grand Mère Pinot Noir originates from 2013 Dijon clone plantings on alluvial limestone soils at the Domingo Vineyard in Villa Bastías. It fermented with 20% whole clusters in a combination of 600-liter roll fermenters, 800-liter open-top tanks and a portion of concrete vats before maturing in used barrique and foudre. It opens with a pure, polished, red-fruited nose followed by a silky, succulent and elegantly rich palate. The finish is a lovely midpoint between luscious concentration and crystalline, nuanced mineral character.
