About this winery

Founded in 1825, Domaine Faiveley is one of Burgundy's greatest domaines. Originally the company was a classic negotiant business, based in Nuits St. Georges and engaged in the buying and selling of wine but not the production of it. After seven generations of steadily acquiring properties throughout the Cotes de Nuits, the Cotes de Beaune, Cotes Chalonnaise and now Chablis, the Faiveley family have established themselves as the most important vineyard owners in Burgundy, with 125 hectares of...

Product notes

The "Petite Chapelle" parcel is situated just below the "Chapelle du Dessus" now named "Chapelle-Chambertin" Grand Cru. 2017 was an early vintage. Harvests started on August 29th, the grape clusters were dense and compact thanks to excellent flowering in late May. Favourable climate conditions gave charm and generosity to the wines. 2017 is a classic style of vintage that can also be enjoyed in its youth.

Production notes

The grapes were harvested and sorted by hand. The proportion of de-stemmed grapes and whole clusters varies depending on the vintage. The wine was punched down daily in order to extract colour, tannins and aromas from the skin of the grapes. After a 19 day vatting period, the alcoholic fermentation was complete. The free-run wine was run off using a gravity system whilst the marc was pressed slowly and gently in order to extract an exceptionally pure press wine. The wine was aged for 16 months in French oak barrels (40-50% new oak and 50-60% one-wine barrels) which have been selected for their fine grain and moderate toast. It was left to age in hygrometry-controlled cellars at consistent, natural temperatures.

Tasting notes

This wine displays a deep ruby colour and enticing aromas of spice and black fruits on the nose. The palate is rich and fruity with a smooth, elegant mouthfeel.

Julia Harding MW, November 2018 (Vintage 2017)

Cask sample. Light crimson. Seductive cherry fruit with a light note of oak spice. Deep and generous in fruit. There’s fruit sweetness and supple texture to make this accessible soon but it has the fruit weight to last.
