About this winery

Grupo Artevino was founded from the expanding ambitions of the Anton Family. Originally coming from the restaurant world, the family owns the Michelin starred Zaldiaran. Understanding the complementary nature of food and wine the Antons established Bodegas Izadi in Rioja and over the next decade they added Villacreces (Ribera del Duero), Vetus (Toro) and Orben (also from Rioja) with the goal to “make high quality wines from indigenous varieties”. All of the properties operate with the same...

January 2015 (Vintage 2015)

A solid dose of violety florals, ripe plum and dark berry fruit. Tannins push this wine along while a youthful energy pervades. Structure, concentration and balance.

December 2016 (Vintage 2012)

Rich and opulent wine showing red flowers, strawberries and minty and meaty undertones. Full body, silky tannins and exceptional, vibrant acidity that follows through to a long, mouth-watering finish.

This wine could also be in my 12 greatest Riberas. Delicious, complex, finely sewn, open. Top quality, and at a bargain price.

A fruity and juicy red with plums and hints of coffee and nutmeg. Full body. Chewy tannins, but plenty in the center palate, suggesting focus and potential with bottle age.

86% tempranillo, 7% cabernet sauvignon and 7% merlot; aged for 16 months in new French oak): Inky purple. Heady aromas of candied dark berries, incense and oak spices, with a bright mineral quality adding complexity. Sappy and precise on the palate, offering intense black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that show a cool restraint thanks to tangy acidity. Finishes spicy and long, with sneaky tannins and resonating minerality.

Josh Raynolds, December 2015 (Vintage 2011)

Opaque purple. Exotic aromas of black and blue fruit preserves, cherry-vanilla, licorice and peppery spices. Plush and open-knit, offering deeply concentrated dark fruit flavors and hints of candied flowers and spicecake. Supple tannins build with air and add shape to a very long, supple finish that leaves cassis and mocha notes behind. This suave wine has the depth to age but drinks very easily now; it was aged for 14 months in new French oak barriques.

This sleek red shows cranberry, cherry, tobacco and orange peel notes over firm tannins. Lively and expressive, with a bright floral finish. Drink now through 2014.
