About this winery

Jean-Marc Brocard's origins lie in the Côte d'Or, a farmer's son from the village of Chaudenay-le-Château, not even the son of the vigneron. Following his father’s advice Jean-Marc studied Engineering leaving behind agricultural life. It was an accident of marriage that brought him to wine when he married Claudine (his childhood sweetheart), a vigneron's daughter from the village of St-Bris-le-Vineux in the valley of Yonne. Starting with single a hectare of vines from his father-in-law in...

Product notes

The Chablis Grand Cru Valmur forms a valley which offers subtle variations in terms of exposure: one part faces Northwest and the other the South. With a well-balanced mineral character, the Valmur is imposes strength and surprising fruitiness into the wine.

Tasting notes

Aromas of lemon with hints of pepper, spice, and toasted notes. These aromas lend to the palate along with flavour of liquorice and buttery brioche. Serve with seafood, shellfish, and white meat, either grilled or in a cream sauce.

December 2020 (Vintage 2018)

Reductive smokiness still clings to lemon and yeast notes on this wine's nose. The palate has smoky allure from oak, with a textured midpalate that speaks of yeast, citrus pith and depth. Chalky concentration spreads cooling freshness despite the year's ripeness. While this wine is rounded and sonorous, it is also vivid and fresh, with a lemony, chalky and textured finish that lasts.

January 2020

The 2018 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru is a fabulous wine that captures the natural richness of this site while retaining a good bit of freshness as well. Lemon confit, white flowers and a discreet touch of oak all marry together in this very pretty and expressive Chablis. Beautifully lifted aromatics round things out in style.

January 2022 (Vintage 2019)

Valmur is known for powerful wines impenetrable in youth but this sun-soaked product of a profoundly ripe vintage offers a rare opulence and softness in demeanor. Richly concentrated, it offers penetrating Mirabelle and yellow-cherry flavors held upright by a steely, reverberating spine. Robust yet zesty...

July 2020 (Vintage 2019)

The 2019 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru has a well-defined bouquet of lemon curd, crushed stone and dried white flowers. There is a sense of brightness here that is very attractive. The palate is well balanced with fine poise and acidity. Harmonious from start to finish, there is a sense of vibrancy about this Valmur that keeps it on its tiptoes. Excellent.

September 2022 (Vintage 2020)

The 2020 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru has a well-defined bouquet with lifted yellow plum and lemon verbena scents, nicely defined and gaining intensity with aeration. The palate is well-balanced with a fine threat of acidity, that undercurrent of bitter lemon lending tension and salinity towards the finish. This is a fine Valmur that should age well in bottle. Tasted blind at the BIVB tasting in Chablis.
