Product notes

Orphan Bank is testament to Langmeil’s commitment to preserving old and rare Barossa vineyards. Ten rows of Shiraz planted pre-1860 were saved from the developer’s bulldozer and replanted alongside the original Langmeil vineyard on the banks of the North Para River. We called these ten rows the “Orphans”, but after 150 years they have a new home.

Tasting notes

Rich and juicy raspberry and Satsuma plum fill the mouth, with allspice sweetness adding to the mouthfeel. The fruit is well balanced with hints of bramble and pepper and textural, fine-grained tannins on the lengthy finish.

July 2024 (Vintage 2021)

A strong release of the Orphan Bank Shiraz from the most excellent 2021 vintage in the Barossa. Deeply coloured with gorgeous aromas of macerated satsuma plums, blueberry, boysenberry and dark cherry fruits. Hints of baking spice, dark chocolate, light espresso notes, violets, licorice, panforte and earth. It's all about harmony, fruit density and flow here, tight, compact sandy tannins providing the base and a finish that lingers nicely with an array of dark plum fruits and spice.
