About this winery

The Latour-Giraud estate has been established in the village of Meursault for many generations. Focused primarily on Meursault, the estate owns an impressive range of Premier Cru and Villages vineyards between 20 and 50+ years old, such as the largest Premier Cru Genevrières vineyard in which two thirds of the vines are more than 50 years old. Notes about product

The appellation Meursault Perrieres spread over 13 hectares, divided into 4 parts between Blagny and the Charmes. With the Genevrieres, it is the finest, the most fabulous of the 1er Crus of Meursault. Its name comes from an old underground quarry which used to provide stones for the construction of village named Meursault.

Winemaking notes

Only the free run juice is fermented with wild, natural yeasts in barrels of which 25% is new. The wines are kept on their lees an appropriate time to balance texture and acidity while racking is kept to a minimum. The whites are fined, but not filtered, and bottled by hand. Unlike many producers who bottle all their wines at once, Latour-Giraud carefully monitors each wine and bottles at the optimal time over a 6 month period.

Tasting notes

This wine is complex, rich, and powerful. On the nose there is this wonderful lime blossom bouquet. A combination of pineapple, grapefruit, lemon-citrus, vanilla toast, along with minerality grace the palate. Spicy with racy acidity. Great aging potential.

(one of the three barrels was new, the other two from 2015): Bright, light yellow with a green tinge. Ripe but reticent nose hints at pineapple, dusty rock and marzipan (one of the three barrels is going through an oxidative phase). Sappy, thick and palate-saturating, with its mineral density leavening this very rich wine's sweetness of fruit. Not a creamy style but finishes with impressive building length, excellent savory grip and an absence of hard edges. Latour describes this wine as "not too large," noting that he picked the fruit early, on August 28 or 29.

This too is wonderfully elegant with its airy and distinctly cool blend of mineral reduction, green apple, spiced pear and jasmine tea. The sleek, sophisticated and focused middle weight flavors brim with both dry extract and an almost pungent minerality on the textured and exceptionally intense finish that goes on and on. This is really lovely though note well that at least some patience will be required.
