About this winery

The Latour-Giraud estate has been established in the village of Meursault for many generations. Focused primarily on Meursault, the estate owns an impressive range of Premier Cru and Villages vineyards between 20 and 50+ years old, such as the largest Premier Cru Genevrières vineyard in which two thirds of the vines are more than 50 years old. Latour-Giraud specializes in white burgundy, which accounts for 80% of their production. They own an impressive 2 ha within Mersault, and also have...

Product notes

The commune of Pommard located between Volnay and Beaune covers an area of total production of 321 Ha, of which 122 Ha are classified as Premier Cru. Pommard is a very old village located on the site of an ancient temple Christian, built by the Gauls and dedicated to Pomona, the goddess in charge of fruit protection. The Cuvée Carmen represents the blend of two vineyards located the furthest west of the village.

Production notes

Only the free run juice is fermented with wild, natural yeasts. The wines are kept on their lees for an appropriate time to balance texture and acidity while racking is kept to a minimum. The whites are fined, but not filtered, and bottled by hand. Unlike many producers who bottle all their wines at once, Latour-Giraud carefully monitors each wine and bottles at the optimal time over a 6 month period.

Tasting notes

A combination of bright, fresh, pure cherry fruit with fine tannins and great acidity on the finish.

April 2022 (Vintage 2020)

A somber, even brooding, nose features notes of ripe dark berries, newly turned earth and a whiff of spice. The fresh, full-bodied and intense middle weight flavors display a touch of rusticity on the youthfully austere finale. This will need a few to further flesh out and add depth.

An earthy and pepper-inflected nose reflects notes of red and dark currant that flashes discreet nuances of spice. The succulent, round and nicely intense medium weight flavors deliver fine length on the ever-so-slightly warm finish. This is mostly built on its fruit yet that won’t prevent it from aging if that’s your preference.

(from Les Vignots). An earthy dark berry fruit nose displays top notes of violet where the earth character is also found on the rich and punchy middle weight flavors that possess a lovely mouth feel, all wrapped in a lingering finish. This is not especially concentrated but I like the balance and complexity.
