About this winery

David Schildknecht of the Wine Advocate implores consumers to drink more Beaujolais calling it a "happy hunting ground for jaded or bargain-seeking wine lovers" continuing a trend that has brought much greater exposure to the region over the past few vintages. We are thrilled to again offer one of the region's most exciting producers Domaine Mathieu and Camille Lapierre. Long-time followers will note change in name from Domaine M. Lapierre to Mathieu and Camille. Sadly Marcel passed away in...

Production notes

Produced only during so-called “exceptional” years, the Cuvée ML will then come from the oldest vines in the estate. Century-old vines located on the Côte du Py and century-old vines located at a place called "Le Douby", near Fleurie. The production never totals more than 2.5 hectares

Tasting notes

The 2019 Cuvée Marcel Lapierre is concentrated and intense, while maintaining a lovely sense of delicacy and lift. With aromas of cherry, liquorice and violet. You'll get plenty of bright fruits, soaring spices, and a lovely mineral undercurrent. When you add the velvety texture, you get a very compelling and elevated expression of Beaujolais.

March 2018

Lurid ruby. Intensely perfumed red fruit liqueur, potpourri and licorice aromas, along with hints of exotic spices and smoky minerals. Sweet, penetrating and focused on the palate, offering sappy raspberry, cherry compote, succulent herb and floral pastille flavors that become livelier as the wine opens up. Smoothly plays richness off of delicacy and finishes extremely long and velvety, with supple, harmonious tannins building slowly.

Josh Raynolds, August 2016 (Vintage 2014)

Dark ruby. Spicy red berries, cherry and lavender on the fragrant nose. Juicy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors are complemented by a hint of spicecake and a mineral nuance that adds refreshing cut. The red fruit and spice notes carry smoothly through the persistent finish, which is given shape by silky tannins and sharpened by a repeating mineral quality.

February 2017

This is so much like great pinot but in fact it's gamay. Superb depth of fruit and freshness with ripe tannins. Fruit-forward finish. Can’t wait to taste from bottle. Old vines.
