About this winery

Situated in the heart of the Mosel's finest vineyards, the Max Ferdinand Richter estate has been in the family for over 300 years. The family owns 48 acres of priceless vines on the magnificent stretch of the river between Erden and Brauenberg including all the best sites: Graacher Himmelreich, Wehlener Sonnenuhr and Brauenberger Juffer and Richter's monopole Veldenzer Eilsenberg. June 2022 (Vintage 2021)

The 2021er Elisenberger Riesling Spätlese, as it is referred to on the consumer label, was made from fruit from 70-year-old vines harvested at 83° Oechsle and was fermented down to fruity-styled levels of residual sugar (70 g/l). It offers a beautifully refined and elegant nose of herbs, smoke, dried white flowers, pear, and prune. The wine has great presence but without weight and the precision is remarkable. The finish is playful with
some fruity elements but also zest and purity.

August 2022 (Vintage 2021)

Picked in early November at 84° Oechsle, the 2021 Elisenberger Riesling Spätlese shows concentrated and focused fruit on the nose. Lean and straight on the palate, with thrilling acidity and lingering salinity that is enormously mouth-watering but dries out your cheeks, this is a future Spätlese that shouldn't be enjoyed before 2035 or maybe even later to save your stomach. The wine is concentrated, precise and focused, enormously vital and saline, and it should be great fun drinking this in 15-20 years. Bottled with 7.5% stated alcohol and 11 grams per liter of total strap-on acidity. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2022.
