About this winery

Monster Vineyards is a boutique winery located on the Naramata Bench in the British Columbia's Okanagan Valley. The winery came to life in 2006 when the owners of Poplar Grove introduced this fun new line up of wines to the British Columbia market. Raising the bar for fruit-forward Okanagan wines, the Monster wines are fresh, fruity and ready to be set free upon release. Monster Vineyards is conveniently located at the gateway to the famous Naramata Bench wine touring route just down the road...

Notes about product

Spring started off slowly and was wetter than average. 2018 found the vineyards two weeks behind on normal bud burst. Once the warmer weather arrived midspring, it caused the above average snow levels in the mountains to melt rapidly resulting in another year of flooding. The flooding did not wash any topsoil away and, after a challenging start, the end of spring weather conditions were perfect for an ideal fruit set. Once summer arrived, it was hot and dry which tested vineyard crews to pay close attention to irrigation regimes and leaf-to-fruit ratios. The vineyards soaked up the summer sunshine; meticulous farming and careful yield management allowed the grapes to fully ripen on the vine. September was wet. After each rainfall, the tractors were driven down the vineyard rows to blow the water off the vines and fruit ensuring there was no opportunity for mold to develop. A beautiful autumn saw the perfect weather to allow the fruit to catch up after a wet September.

Winemaking notes

The grapes were harvested at 21.36ºBx. The riesling, pinot gris, siegerrebe, & muscat grapes were gently pressed and then cold settled & fermented at 16ºC to preserve the bold fruit flavours. 6.65 g/ l of residual sugar and champagne levels of carbonation adds both richness & excitement to the finished wine.
