About this winery

Rocca di Castagnoli is an ancient medieval fortress which was the origin of the Castagnoli hamlet. Throughout its history, this place was owned by numerous noble families, including Tempi (whose coat of arms still represents the company) and Ricasoli. James Suckling, October 2020 (Vintage 2017)

Lots of vivid raspberry, blueberry and currant aromas and flavors to this. Really pure fruit. It’s medium-bodied with soft, silky tannins and a fruity finish. Really well done, as always. Drink or hold.

Antonio Galloni, September 2021 (Vintage 2017)

he 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Poggio a'Frati is a heady, expressive wine that is just showing a hint of its potential. More than anything else, I am impressed with the wine's energy and vibrancy, which was a bit hard to come by in 2017. Bright, saline notes lift a core of sweet red berry fruit, chalk, white pepper, mint, sage and dried flowers. The flavors are so vivid in this super eloquent Riserva from Rocca di Castagnoli.

Bruce Sanderson, September 2022 (Vintage 2017)

Bright cherry and raspberry fruit is the signature of this tightly wound red. Mineral, tobacco and rosemary accents add depth, and the vibrant structure keeps it all defined. Beautifully balanced and long, echoing the ripe fruit. Sangiovese and Canaiolo. Best from 2023 through 2037. 4,000 cases made, 2,000 cases imported.
