About this winery

Sette Ponti reflects the vision of Dr. Antonio Moretti, who took over the estate from his father in the late 1990's, and immediately began producing estate-bottled wines. The vineyards occupy a total of 150 acres, at an altitude of 200 to 300 meters; the oldest vines (mostly sangiovese) date from 1935. The soil is a classic Tuscan mixture of sand, clay, limestone, and schist-based galestro. The estate - 750 acres in total - is farmed in the traditional Tuscan way, so that the vineyards are...

Tasting notes

Dark ruby red colour tinged with decisive violet tones, expresses on the nose incredible sensations of fullness and complexity with a note of ripe berries the give sensations of chocolate and nuances of balsam. Oreno is a captivating wine, rich in structure but decisively dynamic, enhanced by the nuances of new oak and an interminable finish

February 2022 (Vintage 2019)

Wow. Fantastic aromas of blackberries, currants, minerals, violets and graphite. Full-bodied with firm, silky tannins that are incredibly polished and intense, yet ever so refined and integrated in the wine. It goes on for minutes. This one of the best modern-day Orenos so far.

July 2023 (Vintage 2021)

Blackcurrants and black cherries with lovely flowers on the nose. Medium-bodied with ultra fine tannins that give focus and tension to the wine. Pretty and poised. A little shy now. From organically grown grapes.

May 2022

A red with a layered, velvety texture, showing blackberry and black-olive character, together with some iodine and graphite. Full-bodied and rich with lots of fruit and chewy tannins. Savory. 50% merlot, 40% cabernet sauvignon and 10% petit verdot. Needs two or three years to soften.

June 2022 (Vintage 2019)

The Tenuta Sette Ponti 2019 Oreno celebrates the wine's 20th anniversary (1999-2019) with a special label and a heavy glass bottle. This blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot is beautifully ripe and generous with impeccable fruit throughout. Its primary intensity is delivered with energy and character, showcasing broad brush aromas of black fruit, exotic spice, cured tobacco and new leather. The tannins are quite strong in this edition and do make for a brief moment of astringency on the close. This is a thickly extracted blended Tuscan red, and it makes sense that its fiber and structure is also more compact and concentrated in 2019.

Antonio Galloni, August 2023 (Vintage 2021)

The 2021 Oreno is terrific. In fact, the 2021 is one of the best Orenos I can remember tasting. Aromatic, rich and deep, with tons of textural resonance, the 2021 has so much to offer. Scents of tobacco, espresso, spice, new leather and spice open first, leading to waves of dark, resonant fruit that build over time. Impressive. This is an especially heady, flamboyant Tuscan ted. It's a style that works quite well in 2021.

September 2020

The 2017 Oreno is an attractive, expressive wine done in a style that is all about richness. Black cherry, mocha, expresso, licorice and sweet French oak infuse the 2017 with notable depth. In 2017, Oreno is not quite as sumptuous as it can be, but it certainly has plenty of its trademark exuberance.

October 2020 (Vintage 2018)

The flagship wine from Tenuta Sette Ponti is the 2018 Oreno, a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. This is a dark, concentrated and full-bodied expression that exudes black fruit and blackberry with spicy tobacco and savory spice. Despite the Bordeaux blend in its DNA, the wine is fully Tuscan in character and spirit, with the softness and fullness that comes from fruit cultivated under the golden sunshine of Central Italy.

June 2022 (Vintage 2020)

From a warm vintage, the Tenuta Sette Ponti 2020 Oreno (a blend of certified organic Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot) is very rich and fleshed out, and definitely softer compared to the 2019 vintage before it. This wine shows lots of savory fruit and velvety concentration with blackberry preserves and baked cherry. Oreno awards you with a very generous expression from Tuscany that can be enjoyed in the near- or medium-term.

February 2020 (Vintage 2017)

A big, brawny red, this delivers flavors of black cherry, plum and spice, with hints of wild rosemary. Ends with a dry feel and lightly astringent tannins that may upset the balance as this ages, but stays fresh overall. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.
